In early 2008, NASA sought proposals to design a rotorcraft relevant, state of the art, high-speed centrifugal compressor through an NRA from the Subsonic Rotary Wing Project in the Fundamental Aeronautics Program. UTRC was selected to demonstrate state of the art technology by improving the efficiency, reducing the maximum diameter, and increasing the pressure ratio of the NASA CC3 compressor.

UTRC considered several commercial CFD codes for use on this project. After conducting side by side evaluations and comparisons to NASA CC3 data, ADS was selected and deployed in a Linux cluster environment.
